The FS2 CREW for the Aerosoft CRJ provides a High-Fidelity professional airline level simulated Co-Pilot and cabin flight crew. FS2 Crew is the premiere, and only Credible company for providing such simulated flight crew in High-Fidelity Personal Computer (P.C.) based flight simulators on various platforms including MSFS and the Lockheed Martin Prepare 3-D (P3D) systems.

The scope of this review is to evaluate the overall quality, in association its degree of fidelity, functionality, and the effective utility for the FS2 CREW simulated Aerosoft CRJ Co-Pilot and Flight Crew for the Microsoft Flight Simulator (M.S.F.S.) simulation.

The FS2 Crew concept functionality has Fully Blossomed for the MSFS AeroSoft CRJ!!!!!!

I have been using similar FS2 Crew products across previous platforms including: Microsoft FSX and Lockheed Martin P3D and find the FS2 Crew for the AeroSoft CRJ to be the best of the best in terms of functionality.

Got Systems?

The FS2 Crew for the AeroSoft CRJ (MSFS) now allows for the Captain to selectively jump to or from using a pop-up menu within the GUI. Now instead of going through a thirty (30) cold and dark or turnaround startup process, I can simply select for the ready for taxi checklist when the aircraft is loaded in running state!!!! For anyone with time constraints this is a Great new feature, or perhaps I had not yet noticed it…..

Fidelity:

For some background, FS2 Crew develops, designs, and tests their products with Real Life/World Airline pilots using the mirrored procedures, cockpit flow, and checklists used by Regulated Airlines; Globally.

Previously, I extensively used the FS2 Crew for the PMDG Boeing 737 Next Generation (N.G.) on the Microsoft FSX platform. One can learn how the systems operate in the real world going through the Cold and Dark Systems Start-Up through the Entire Flight until System Shut-Down at the Destination Airport. Again, Such is the case with the FS2 Crew for the AeroSoft CRJ (MSFS).

When it comes to delivering America’s resolve, the Raider will provide the Air Force with long range, high survivability and mission payload flexibility. The B-21 will penetrate the toughest defenses for precision strikes anywhere in the world. Here are 10 key facts about Northrop Grumman’s B-21 Raider.

1. Sixth Generation. The B-21 Raider benefits from more than three decades of strike and stealth technology. It is the next evolution of the Air Force strategic bomber fleet. Developed with the next generation of stealth technology, advanced networking capabilities and an open systems architecture, the B-21 is optimized for the high-end threat environment. It will play a critical role in helping the Air Force meet its most complex missions. 

2. Stealth. Northrop Grumman is continuously advancing technology, employing new manufacturing techniques and materials to ensure the B-21 will defeat the anti-access, area-denial systems it will face. 

3. Backbone of the Fleet. The B-21 Raider forms the backbone of the future for U.S. air power. The B-21 will deliver a new era of capability and flexibility through advanced integration of data, sensors and weapons. Capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear payloads, the B-21 will be one of the most effective aircraft in the sky, with the ability to use a broad mix of stand-off and direct attack munitions.

4. A Digital Bomber. The B-21 is a digital bomber. Northrop Grumman uses agile software development, advanced manufacturing techniques and digital engineering tools to help mitigate production risk on the B-21 program and enable modern sustainment practices. Six B-21 Raiders are in various stages of final assembly and test at Northrop Grumman’s plant in Palmdale, California.

5. Cloud Technology. Northrop Grumman and the Air Force successfully demonstrated the migration of B-21 ground systems data to a cloud environment. This demonstration included the development, deployment and test of B-21 data, including the B-21 digital twin, that will support B-21 operations and sustainment. This robust cloud-based digital infrastructure will result in a more maintainable and sustainable aircraft with lower-cost infrastructure.

6. Open Architecture. To meet the evolving threat environment, the B-21 has been designed from day one for rapid upgradeability. Unlike earlier generation aircraft, the B-21 will not undergo block upgrades. New technology, capabilities and weapons will be seamlessly incorporated through agile software upgrades and built-in hardware flexibility. This will ensure the B-21 Raider can continuously meet the evolving threat head on for decades to come.

7. A National Team. Since contract award in 2015, Northrop Grumman has assembled a nationwide team to design, test and build the world’s most advanced strike aircraft. The B-21 team includes more than 8,000 people from Northrop Grumman, industry partners and the Air Force. The team consists of more than 400 suppliers across 40 states.  

8. Sustainment. Long-term operations and sustainment affordability has been a B-21 program priority from the start. In partnership with the Air Force, our team has made maintainability an equally important requirement to stealth performance to ensure we’re driving more affordable, predictable operations and sustainment outcomes.

9. Global Reach. The B-21 Raider will be the backbone of the U.S. bomber fleet and pivotal to supporting our nation’s strategic deterrence strategy. 10. Raider. The B-21 Raider is named in honor of the Doolittle Raid of World War II when 80 airmen, led by Lt. Col. James “Jimmy” Doolittle, and 16 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers set off on a mission that changed the course of World War II. The actions of these 80 volunteers were instrumental in shifting momentum in the Pacific theater. This marked the raid as a catalyst to a multitude of future progress in U.S. air superiority from land or sea. DC Design‘s Concorde is marketed under the Just Flight banner and store. JustFlight Kindly and Generously provided a free Press-Copy for this Critical Review.

Manuals:

The Concorde manual written by DC Designs is truly the highpoint of this product as far as I am concerned. It is sufficient, bland, with Absolutely No Frills.

Score: 8.0 out of 10

Graphics & Texture Quality:

The general external textures were sufficient. However, they indubitably lack that “Ummphhhhhhh“, Spark, and/or Striking Qualities, Attributes, and/or Characteristics required and expected at this level of a flight simulation to be reasonably competitive in the product market.

Score: 7 out of 10

ThreeDimensional (3D) Virtual Cockpit Modeling, and Textures.

The Concorde cockpit designed and delivered by DC Designs is Adequate and Reasonably Functional but ultimately Sub-Par, or significantly less than market competitive products. The old and very well worn and used textures provide a strong and constant distraction from the below average texture quality.

Score: 6 out of 10

Flight Dynamics & Flight Modeling Quality:

The aircraft flight model and dynamics appear, sound, and feel as they should could be. Only a properly trained and experienced real world Concord pilot would be the credible judge(s). The slow flight, stalling (i.e. power on & off, thirty-degree turning stalls, steep turns, power on (Clean and in Full Landing Configurations), acceleration and deceleration rates were not possible to conduct under reasonable conditions due to the very poor and unacceptable performance at 4K resolutions. I will give DC Designs the benefit of the doubts on this one based on the reasoning in the first sentence of this paragraph.

Aircraft Systems Quality:

The aircraft systems are minimalist and, while not advertised or marketed, are not in the High-Fidelity Study Level category. There are is no weather radar or terrain radar included. JustFlight reiterated this was not and not intended to be a High-Fidelity / Study Level Flight Simulation.

The DC Designs Concorde systems were generally Adequate, Functional, and UnRemarkable.

Overall Performance Quality:

The primary purpose of this review was to test out the DC Designs Concorde on a modern M.S.F.S. platform at 4K resolutions. The DC Designs Concorde failed miserably.

I was not able to fly the aircraft at all with Severe and Constant Freezes and Pauses in all instances. Specifically, in high angle of attacks and high rate of axis(es) movements, that triggered external wing effects, nearly paralyzed the the flight.

I made several attempts on different occasions with fresh computer reboots with the latest build and all software updates.

Moreover, I completely lowered all effects and settings to the minimum possible at 4K resolutions and the same results were yielded.

The DC Designs Concorde is poorly source coded Resulting in Very Poor and Unacceptable performance at 4K (UHD) resolutions required And Intended in And For the modern M.S.F.S. platform. Specifically, any normal operations or aggressive flight movements that trigger external aircraft flight effects immediately and constantly cripple the performance.

I highly Do Not Recommend the DC Designs Concorde for anyone, or any entity, expecting to harness the current generation M.S.F.S. at the 4K (UHD) level due to the Very Poor Performance And Sub-Standard Textures throughout, Particularly and Specifically in the Virtual Cockpit.

On July 18th, 2022 DELTA Airlines and The BOEING COMPANY jointly announced a firm order for one hundred (100) units of the latest and largest BOEING 737, the BOEING 737 MAX 10. Moreover, the sales contract includes a clause option for up to an additional thirty (30) units.

DELTA Airlines, in their announcement, explain their primary justification for the value proposition of this purchase contract is the BOEING 737 MAX 10 yields a twenty to thirty percent increase (20 – 30%) in fuel efficiency during typical operation, compared to current models used. Ultimately, the Return On Investment (R.O.I.) is a confidently expected decreased long-term operational costs, without sacrificing quantity, while also simultaneously increasing customer satisfaction.

The BOEING 737 MAX 10 (737-10) can seat up to 230 passengers with a range of 3,300 nautical miles. The BOEING Company lists the 737-10 Features and Technical Specifications here (Click Here).

The BOEING 737 MAX 10 (737-10) currently does not have the mandatory United States Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) Airworthiness Certification. The aircraft is currently under review by the F.A.A. If the F.A.A. does not certify the BOEING 737 MAX 10 by the end of this year (December 31, 2022), The Boeing Company must make substantial and costly redesign modifications to the general flight safety and alerting systems. The current and older systems designed into the BOEING 737 MAX 10 will not be protected by grandfathering the current regulatory standards any further beyond December 31st, 2022. Naturally, Legally, and Obviously, these required safety systems must be compliant with current regulations at the time the BOEING 737 MAX 10 is granted and awarded its F.A.A. Airworthiness Certification, or by December 31st, 2022.

Delta Air Lines will add the state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to its fleet, as the airline continues to refresh its fleet to elevate the in-flight customer experience while improving fuel efficiency.

Delta is ordering the largest model in the MAX family, the 737-10, which will begin delivery in 2025. It will be powered by the next-generation LEAP-1B engines manufactured by CFM International, a company jointly owned by GE and Safran Aircraft Engines. The aircraft will be 20%-30% more fuel efficient than the retiring Delta planes it will replace, making the agreement an important step in Delta’s journey toward a sustainable future for aviation.

The Boeing 737-10 will be an important addition to Delta’s fleet as we shape a more sustainable future for air travel, with an elevated customer experience, improved fuel efficiency and best-in-class performance,” said Ed Bastian, Delta’s chief executive officer. “These new aircraft provide superior operating economics and network flexibility, and the agreement reflects our prudent approach to deploying our capital.

Scope and Goal:

The scope of this review is to evaluate the overall quality, in association its degree of fidelity, and the effective utility within the simulation for the 900 and 1000 models.

The goal of this review is to have a robust review of the product, the product performance, and the Aerosoft CANADAIR Regional Jet (C.R.J.) 900 and 1000 .

Previously I published the C.R.J. 550 and 700 review on December 18, 2021. The review can be read by clicking here.

I have done extensive, rigorous, and prolonged testing for this review.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Version: Game Of The Year Edition with Direct X 12 Beta Enabled.

The final Aerosoft C.R.J. version tested was 1.0.15.0 .

All of the testing was done with the Saitek 3D PRO joystick. Inexcusably the product is not compatible with the external hardware interface FSUIPC (Pete and John Dawson) required for the Precision Flight Controls Yoke and Throttle set detailed below.

Upon direct email consultation with Aerosoft Project Manager Mathijs Kok and Cedric Mattys, it was disclosed that Aerosoft has declined to provide functionality to FSUIPC because M.S.F.S. has developed sufficient advanced controls native to the program.

Following receiving this information, I shut down the FSUIPC program and was able to nearly fully assign most essential control inputs into the M.S.F.S. Controls Assignments. However, the Take Off Go Around (T.O.G.A.) button assignment was not available in M.S.F.S. Controls menu. The M.S.F.S. Controls menu does have an option for an Auto Throttle T.O.G.A.

Ultimately, all essential assignments for external controls can be assigned within the M.S.F.S. Controls, With Limitations.

Purchase, download, and installation were standard without any issues or problems. The $50.99 United Stated Dollar (U.S.D.) price is reasonable for most users.

Manuals:

The provided manual is well written with sufficient details and very well illustrated with number screenshots. Aircraft takeoff performance charts, takeoff and landing charts, center of gravity (C.G.) charts, and cruise power tables are all absent. The charts and tables for the real aircraft this was modeled from should have been included in the manual.

I found some issues and problems with these listed below:

  1. Systems for the CRJ 550/700 are Identical to that of the CRJ 9000/1000 –> They may be indeed identical in the real aircrafts, though I just wanted to mention this.
  2. The Structural Weight limits between the CRJ model variants. For example the CRJ 900ER and the CRJ 1000 have ninety (90) and one-hundred (100) passenger capacity, respectively.
  3. The weight and balance tables between the CRJ 550, 700, 900, and 1000 models are not clearly labeled and confusing.
  4. The naming/identification, or nomenclature, between the CRJ 900 and CRJ 1000 are inconsistent and confusing throughout. There is a CRJ 900ER routinely referenced along with a CRJ 900, yet there is no CRJ 1000 model.
  5. Quick Reference Guide page # 37, V-Speed performance Tables: There is no identification of what CRJ models the V-speeds and weights.
  6. Quick Reference Guide page # 6 Maximum Landing Weight: The tables are only showing the landing weight up to and including: 34.019 kg or 75,000 lbs.
  7. Performance Tables are incomplete: The tables are only showing the landing weight up to and including: 34.019 kg or 75,000 lbs.
  8. Various typographical (typos) throughout.

Score: 9.25 out of 10

Graphics & Texture Quality:

Identical to that of the CRJ 550 and 750, the overall graphics quality including texture sharpness and clarity at native 4K/Ultra-High-Definition (U.H.D.) resolution are OUTSTANDINGLY AMAZING, as Expected. Briefly, the texture and modeling are the best seen to date in M.S.F.S. for any aircraft. Perhaps some may argue the relic Precision Manuals Development Group (P.M.D.G.) DC-6 looks better. However, from my seat and perspective this modern turbojet aircraft Aerosoft has delivered is unmatched in both modeling and texture quality and detail.

ThreeDimensional (3D) Virtual Cockpit Modeling, Textures, and Night Lighting

The cockpit is delivered to the quality as expected.

Flight Dynamics & Flight Modeling Quality:

The aircraft flight model and dynamics appear, sound, and feel as they should. The slow flight, stalling (i.e. power on & off, thirty-degree turning stalls, steep turns, power on (Clean and in Full Landing Configurations), acceleration and deceleration rates all seem very realistic and of the highest fidelity.

Rigorous environmental testing was conducted as follows either at or near maximum certified takeoff weight:

  1. CRJ 1000 –> High Altitude Airport Takeoff at Daochen Yading airport (ZUNDC) in the People’s Republic of China at 11,560 feet Mean Sea Level (M.S.L.).

2) CRJ 1000 –> Cold Altitude Airport Takeoff at Qaanaaq airport (BGTL) in Greenland.

3) CRJ 1000 –> HOT temperature takeoff in Kuwait (OKBK).

4) CRJ 1000 –> Short Field takeoff and Landing at Sedona, Arizona (U.S.A.).

5) CRJ 1000 –> Aircraft and Agility testing at Lugano, Switzerland.

6) CRJ 1000 –> High Aircraft Density Certification in Boston Logan Airport to New York John F. Kennedy airport (KJFK).

7) CRJ 1000 –> Night Flight Certification in Paris, France (Europe).

8) CRJ 1000 –> Flight Envelope and Stability Testing.

The flight model and dynamics are Fantastic.

Aircraft Systems Quality:

The aircraft systems are robust, basic, and well defined for s study level flight simulation. There are is no weather radar or terrain radar included.

The Traffic Collision Avoidance System (T.C.A.S.) aural (audio warning) is delayed about five (5) seconds and compromises flight safety.

No Takeoff Tail Strike Simulation (*Wish List* 🙂 )

The Trim Control buttons are not synched with the external computer controllers.

The Flight Management Computer (F.M.C.) has no option to enter data via the computer keyboard.

The Autopilot certainly needs some optimization, fine-tuning, and polishing. For example with the autopilot on in NAV mode following the preprogrammed flight plan, the aircraft will make a turn of approximately thirty (30) to forty-five (45) degrees and then proceeded to oscillate in a decreasing sigmoidal pattern, on both sides of the new course track for several minutes. I do not distinctly recall the new course tract was definitively established, even after several minutes of these dampening tracking oscillations. To note the y-axis of the autopilot, or altitude, hold was wither on altitude hold or in the Vertical hold (VNAV) mode, being directed by the F.M.C.
